Barbiturate withdrawal causes similar psychological and physiological symptoms as alcohol withdrawal. Substance abuse over a long period of time may lead to tolerance, which means more and higher doses of the medicine are needed to get the same high. Both withdrawal syndromes have equivalent prescribed treatments, but patients’ behavioural and autonomic resistance was noteworthy.
